I was uncertain what gender they were, but i knew something was wrong. At first sight, the three creatures greeted Macbeth Thane of Glamis. They then started chanting prophesis that concerned Macbeth and me. The first witch chanted,All hail,Macbeth! Hail to thee,Thane of Glamis followed by the next All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee,Thane of Cawdor and the last of which chanted All hail, Macbeth ,that shalt be king hereafter! Hail they chanted three times together and continued prophesising. I have recently witnessed my dear friend Macbeth crowned King of Scotland. I am still in shock after the strange happenings of the past few days, so I am not yet overcome with neither joy nor grief. I should be happy for Macbeth, yet I feel that something inside me will not allow me to be so. These events, I fear, have not happened by chance, but that something evil, something supernatural is at work. Macbeth and I felt immense pride, on that fateful day as we rode, victorious, over the moor. We had just defeated the ghastly Norwegians, though by uncivilized means. Macbeth rightly said So foul; and fair a day I have not seen. Not far into our journey, we came upon three weird sisters. They all hailed Macbeth Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and king hereafter. True, he was Thane of Glamis, but we were puzzled, to say the least, about the other two statements. As I was intrigued, I questioned them about my future. In reply, they told me that my sons would me kings, and that I would be Lesser than Macbeth, and greater. This confuses me greatly, for had they not just said that Macbeth would be king? Of course, I chose not to believe these instruments of darkness. Amazingly, minutes after the sisters had vanished, Macbeth was announced Thane of Cawdor. We were both quite taken aback, for the beings had foretold that very thing. I think our minds both raced towards the third prediction, All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! I believe that Macbeth began to think about how to make the third prophecy a reality. We spoke no more about it. Surprisingly, Malcolm was named Duncans successor, though Macbeth was firm favourite in my mind, at least.

Anne Tyler Teenage Wasteland This short story by Anne Tyler is about the trials and tribulations of a mother and son relationship. Donny is a seemingly normal teenage boy who is just going through a rough patch. After being called to a meeting Daisy, his mother, learns that Donnys grades are slipping and he is unresponsive in class. Thats where Cal comes in. Cal tries to help but ends up doing more damage than good. To help her teach us a lesson through her story she uses a specific point that shapes our opinion, an allusion that tell us that time is ticking, and a theme that shows us how important our parents are to who will be. The point of view in Tylers story is very important to the format. It is told in third person omniscient and this makes us, as readers, feel a certain way toward the family and Cal. Daisy is the only person in the story that we feel an actual connection with. We know how she is feeling and what she is going through. As the story progresses, our feeling are shaped by how Daisy is feeling. We can see how Daisy changed from powerful to confused to hopeless. We also start feeling a certain way toward the characters by her attitude towards them. We feel compassion and pity for Amanda as her mom brushes her away, anger towards Cal when he starts trying to take over Donny, and frustration towards Donnys refusal to conform. In contrast to us feeling everything Daisy is going through, we simply see the actions of the other characters instead of actually feeling their emotions. Tyler does this so we dont simply see just what the setting is. Instead, we see the emotions that are ever present in this story. The allusion to Peter Pan stood out very distinctly for me. Peter Pan was all about someone avoiding responsibilities, living in a fantasy, being lazy, and believing that having fun is the most important thing. In this story, Cal would be considered Peter Pan. He has no kids, not a care in the world, hes fully grown but wont accept it, and he will not let go of his old life. Hes too lax to be a real tutor. His goal is not to help this kids but to enjoy himself and help his students do the same thing. The example of this is in lines 15-19, The tutor told Donny to call him Cal. All his kids did, he said. Daisy thought for a second that he meant his own children, then realized her mistake. He seemed too young, anyhow, to be a family man. He wore a heavy brown handle bar mustache. His hair was as long and stringy as Donnys and his jeans just as faded. Peter Pan is also the confident leader of the Lost Boys, just like Cal is the leader of the hoodlums that hang out around his house. While Cal is Peter Pan, refusing to grow up and foolishly naÃÆ'Â ¯ve, Donny would be one of the Lost Boys. Hes growing up and easily influenced, he finds his responsibilities challenging, and dislikes his parents. When his mother is called to his private school to meet with the principal we learn how Donny connects to the Lost Boys, Clutching her purse, she sat on the principals couch and learned that Donny was noisy, lazy, and disruptive; always fooling around with his friends, and he wouldnt respond in class. It is also quite evident that Donny was matured on the outside, But his cheeks, of course, were no longer round, and a sharp new Adams apple jogged in his throat when he talked. But his identity on the inside had not matured quite as much. The last factor is Neverland where you never have to grow up, which would simply be Cals presence. He convinces Daisy and Matt to let Donny stay out later, told them not to call and see if parents were supervising parties, and they were not al lowed to ask one question about how school was going. Being around Cal even made Donnys grades drop lower than they already were. When Donny and the other students were with his, they didnt have to worry about parents, school, or simple responsibilities that were assigned to them. They found hopeless release in Cals presence and became almost infatuated with him. Cals presence being Neverland is show in lines 56-59, It was Cal this, Cal that, Cal says this, Cal and I did that. Cal lent Donny an album by the Who. He took Donny and two other pupils to a rock concert. In March, when Donny began to talk endlessly on the phone with a girl named Miriam, Cal even let Miriam come to one of the tutoring sessions. I believe that by adding this allusion to Peter Pan, his followers, and Neverland to her story, Tyler is trying to teach us a moral. I believe that she is telling us that everyone will grow up. Its simply a part of life that we cannot control. The theme of Teenage Wasteland is all about parenting. Its about how the mother and the father play a major part in how the child grows up. The parents are with the child more than anyone else and they are influenced by what they do. Even if it is true that people are born with inherent qualities they are still shaped, in some form or another, by the people who surround them on a day to day basis. We can see Daisy struggling with the fact that she knows she caused Donny to grow up unmotivated and lazy. She knew that she was the one who started the problem and had no one to blame but herself. At night, Daisy lies awake and goes over Donnys life. She is trying to figure out what went wrong, where they made their first mistake. Often, she finds herself blaming Cal, although she knows he didnt begin it. If you want successful children you have to learn to manage time. You have to know how to spend time with each one and remind them how important they are to the world and how they each ha ve separate amazing qualities that make them stand out. I believe that Daisy was a good mother before and after Amanda was born but eventually had a hard time handling both of them. She had good intentions but bad ways of doing it. Tylers story uses these literary devices to show how hard it is to grow up in this generation. Children have a hard time fitting in and finding out where they belong. Its all about trying to find out who you are in this crazy world. Unfortunately, there are more children like Donny, forming and festering into someone who is unhappy and confused. I believe that this shows that you do not have to rely on other people for your happiness.

The gods can be generous and supportive, and also devastating and destructive to any group of humans. Mortals must respect the powers above them that cannot be controlled. The gods rule over destiny, nature, and justice, and need to be recognized and worshipped for the powerful beings as they are. Regardless of one's actions, intentions, and thoughts, the gods in Greek myth have ultimate power and the final decision of justice over nature, mortals, and even each other. Justice is a very important ruling power for both gods and mortals. For instance, in Sophocles' tragedy, Antigone, justice prevails over king Creon's actions. He sentences his own niece to death for giving her deceased brother, a pronounced enemy of Thebes, a proper burial. In return for his rigid ruling he loses his wife and son to tragic deaths. Creon puts his own city?s justice before the determined justice of the gods, and pays dearly for it. Antigone also receives justice for her actions even though she dies. She did go against the law of her mortal king, but did obey the law of the gods, and therefore died a hero and martyr. The laws of the gods gives dishonor to those who do not properly respect their family members. In order to keep her honor and self-respect, Antigone had to break her city?s law, even if it meant death. ?Justice? can also be associated with the goddess of Earth, Justice. There are a few EDHEC Global MBA participants who decided to study in this program to search for better understanding of business disciplines in order to improve their quality as managers with the main goal of returning to their countries and continue their family business. Family business can be very large, a big example is Walmart that even after 43 years and being the third largest company in the world, the Walton family still owns 48% of the stake. However, most cases of family business still relate to medium or smaller sizes. The good thing about a family business is that it has a strong sense of commitment and honor from the members. Family businesses are more likely to last because there will always be an effort on the part of the family members not to let it die or fade related to their inner values. Brazilian candidate, Andressa Lass Santos provides us with her testimony on her family business case: â€Å"The EDHEC MBA program has been helping me gain a broader perspective in relation to several business facets such as leadership, accounting, management, studying the local economy and the industry and how to combine them all in a strategic manner. Every class has been helping me come up with ideas and is making me notice flaws that I had never perceived before, as well as areas where there are room for improvements in my family business. My father started a construction company and asphalt plant 25 years ago in Curitiba, Brazil. He is an engineer and agrees with me that if I gain more management skills it would be very useful for the company, since he has little time to invest in that, and in fact he is beginning to think to step out of the picture and work more as a counselor. As each single class goes by, I learn something new and try to think how to implement in our family business. On this unforgettable day, three aircrafts crashed at different locations throughout the United States. Two of which crashed into the famous World Trade Center taking thousands of innocent lives. These attacks had allowed countries to learn and prepare to avoid any similar future events. Moreover, the effects of 9/11 had indirectly influenced Canada, beneficially and detrimentally.Canada as a nation had learned from this tragic experience as well as mourned the losses of its neighboring nation. The terrorist attacks had dramatically affected Canada; socially, economically, politically. To begin with, Canada’s social atmosphere had been indirectly affected by 9/11. The aftermath of 9/11 mirrored similar social effects of the United States, within Canada. Canadians developed a sense of paranoia for unexpected terrorist at tacks, which may possibly occur at any given period.Many Americans believed that the terrorists had slipped through Canadian borders; in consequence, attacking Canada may be easy for terrorists. The events of 9/11 had influenced many of the majority class Canadians to assimilate a patriotic and vengeful mind state. Post 9/11 minority Canadians were witnessing a dramatic increase of discrimination and racial profiling. Several majority class citizens and patriotic citizens were acting chaotic by performing hate crimes for their own self-interest of protecting themselves.Similarly, several minority individuals consisting of brown skin tone were perceived to be terrorists and prone to alienation, â€Å"Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Sikh Canadians all once again found themselves on the receiving end of unjust treatment meted out by their neighbors. Canada’s economy like many others is partially dependent on the United States. In consequence, Canada mirrors the United States economic progress. . The aftermath of 9/11 had mainly been negative for Canada’s economy. In 2009, Canada had imported 51. 1% to its biggest trading partner, the United States however, the increased border security applied by the United States resulted in a 2. 4% decline in Canada’s exports to the United States.Several businesses had laid-off workers. Over 462 form layoffs were executed and an estimated of 130,000 workers were displaced. Canada had expended $1. 2 billion in order to enhance border security. After 9/11 Canada’s security expenses had dramatically increased to an estimated total of $10. 7 billion. Increased security after 9/11 had continuously led to harmful effects towards the economy. However, improved security within Canada had led people to believe that the country was a much safer place than before.Similarly In result to 9/11, Canada’s economy had shifted negatively. Finally, Canada had undergone numerous political changes as a result of 9/11. Canada had applied new policies and regulations to ensure and safeguard the protection of society and to avoid any future acts of terrorism. As a result, Canada introduced the ‘Canadian Anti-Terrorism Act’. Such an act was necessary in-order to calm down society and create a sense of safe-haven. The act was created only after the 9/11 attacks, and the main goal was to prevent history from repeating itself.Also, Canada had created a new act to further increase security and prevention of terrorism, â€Å"Public Safety Act, which features executive regulations designed to secure sites and substances exposed to terrorism. The main purpose of the act was, to prevent terrorist attacks and protect Canadians, However, many Canadian citizens where shocked by the event and wanted to reach out and give their full support in helping the United States. To sum up, Canada’s political state had endured an extensive amount of changes. In conclusion, Canada had been affected circuitously by 9/11.Post 9/11, Canada had appeared out as a different nation; it had changed socially, economically, environmentally. Socially, Canada had reacted towards the tragedy with an increase of discrimination, racial profiling and hate crimes. Moreover, Canada’s economy had suffered negatively because of our dependence on the United States. Corporations and businesses had experienced lower profits for the months following the attacks as a result of increased security. Canada had also shifted politically with the creation and innovation of new and old laws and regulations for the greater good of society.Such an terrible event that had taken place on 9/11 will never be forgotten; i t will be imprinted into history and used as an example to avoid any similar events.
